school me on 2008 Ford 6.4L PSD

IS the 6.4L a good motor. What are the common issues with them. Found 1 that is stock with 111,000 on it.

Anyone have any insight on them?

They're not a bad motor, they just get terrible fuel mileage.

I've got one with 166K on it. Had EGR valve/cooler, head studs, and (2) radiators replaced under warranty. Only other issues have been a third radiator and oil pump failure @ 145K. Just had it deleted a couple of months ago and it's like a different truck. Even in stock form it pulled like a herd of draft horses. Like Jooger said, it gets poor fuel mileage but if you're looking for that, buy a Prius.

Take the asking price and add 5k dollars then decide if it's a good deal or not.

I had one for about a year, leaked oil, coolant, needed dpf filter replacement, egr replacement. Had about 130k miles. Better off with a newer 6.7 or an older 7.3.

The 6.4 built by International is regarded as a throwaway engine. Shortcuts are said to have been taken. Parts are generally more expensive too. You'd be better off with a late 6.0 than a 6.4.

I had a 2008 , gen III zero issues or complaints. Got 15 mpg with or without my 16ft lowboy loaded with feed or a skid steer.

I'd run. I had one and it was a bad *** truck when it was running. When it wasn't it got pricey quick. I kept it until 200K and went to a 6.7, I usually put 350+ on my trucks. Do yourself a favor and get a bulletproffed 6.0 or save up a bit more and get a 6.7.

A freaking beast when they're tuned right. My dad still has his 08 but he has bought 4 or 5 radiators for it also. Other than that its been a good truck. Almost 200k on it

They say it's worse than the 6.0.

Tell you dad to buy a mishimoto radiator and stop giving his money away on those plastic tanks.

I had one, had it tuned at around 115K, ran it to 238K when I started having compression issues. traded it for 6.7. There is an excellent diesel shop in NW Houston. Its called Powerstroke Magic take it to him and let them check it out. You wont be sorry
