In the market for a small SUV

    Hello GS,
I am in the market for a smallish SUV for my daughter. There are lots to choose from. I am interested to hear from those that have recently purchased or did some research. I am interested in the best bang for the buck vehicle with good safety ratings. Your thoughts and advice is welcomed.

    Thanks

As far as safety. My wife used to drive a Ford Escape. She was hit in the rear by a Dodge challenger while she was stopped due to a wreck in front of her. The dodge hit her doing 76. She survived the crash. The car did as designed and crumpled in the right places. The passenger compartment was in tact.

Just rented a Hyundai Tucson awd. Drove it several hundred miles, functioned very well and drove very smoothly. For the price, I'm sure it would be hard to beat. I'm pretty sure they come with a ridiculous warranty.

Just purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Has several thousand miles, it does well but it was much more expensive than the Hyundai.

We bought my daughter an Toyota Highlander. Fantastic vehicle.

We searched a long time for a small suv as well. Found a great deal on a used older model.

              FYI - https://www.yahoo.com/tech/1-3-milli...130035460.html

Hyundai's are making some real nice vehicles these days - also offer the best warranty too. They are hard to beat.

Wife and I bought a new highlander in 16. Love the way it rides, and the layout.

Only issue is the powertrain. Transverse mounted V6 is a PIA to work on if you ever need to. Had an oil leak develop around the timing cover on it. They had to pick the entire motor/transmission out to repair the leak. They didn't fix the issue either. The machined face where the head meets the block has a ridge, they just filled it with high temp rtv.

I wouldn't use my sole experience to gauge your purchase, but I'll probably never own another Toyota, atleast a transverse mounted V6 again.

                My .02
