+1 on a 14" Echo, Home Depot sells them cheap and you can always put a 16-18" bar on it later and have more power than a cheapie of the same size. The 14" is my go to when trimming up before season.
Was in the market for some chainsaws years ago. Went to a shop with the intention of getting Stihl's and came out with Echo's. I don't know if they made more on selling Echo over Stihl but that was the shop's recommendation. It's been 12 years now the those 3 Echo's have not let me down. They have been as dependable as the sun coming up in the east every morning.
Found a smoking deal on a stihl ms250c so I got it. It's slightly heavier than I wanted but for $125 and only used to cut down 3 trees it was well worth it I think

The exact same thing happened to me, same results, now the dealer did tell me if i wanted a large saw then the Stihl may be a better choice.
I have a Stihl Farm boss 290 and I am not too fond of it due to weight. When cutting all day, machine weight is a big factor to consider. I would look into saws the that tree trimmers use, there is a difference in weight. Have to consider they are up in the air working.( something I learned after I bought the 290)
I also have a battery powered Stihl pole saw. Now thats the bomb, it will out run me and with speed charger is ready to go in 20 minutes. Price might prohibitive though.
All that said, the Stihls/Echos are the way to go. I wasted alot of money on Poulan, sears etc
