    Let's Talk About ... Mattresses'

So I'm looking to replace 2 queen size beds in our house.

Trying to stay budget minded, what are your thoughts?

Should I replace the box springs as well as the mattress?

These are over 12 years old, easy.

I have one for sale. $1500.....firm.

    Get it.

If you can't decide, sleep on it.

    Get it.

Seriously, box springs are very cheap (usually thrown in with new mattresses). Replace 'em.

I love our Tempurpedic mattresses. So do others. A friend from SD called this week to ask my wife what kind of mattress they slept on at our house because they were replacing theirs and ours was the most comfortable bed they'd slept on. Buy a good one and like Chew said, the box springs are a fraction of the overall costs....replace it.

If budget is an issue try IKEA.
We just swapped out our pillow top $1000 mattress for a $400 IKEA and couldn't be happier.

Man, I get sticking to a budget... BUT. If this is the mattress YOU and your wife sleep on, don't scrimp. You spend 1/3 of your life in bed, more than in any other location. If it is your personal bed, I second the temperpedic mattress. They are costly, but drastically changed how I felt throughout the day.

If it is a spare... find any cheap replacement.

Several years ago we bought a Denver mattress. It cost about $700, if I remember right, and I sleep very well on it. There was no way I was going to spend 3-4K on a mattress.

Love my $3500 Beauty Rest quilted top and box springs.
Plus I'm about twice as good looking as I used to be after a year sleeping on it.

Have you considered adding a good (not the $69 walmart special) memory foam topper to your existing mattress and keeping it? We did and love it.

We have been looking the past few days. We have a 15 yo Simmons Beautyrest. Here is what we have narrowed it down to.

                            Restonic Latex
                            Sleep number
                            Temper

Guy at Sleep number store asked if our mattress was not performing anymore after 15 years and I told no, we still slept very good on it. He asked why are you looking then. I looked him in the eye and said, "You know you're right, see you later". Caught him off guard.

My wife has been on my butt to get a new bed since we first got married. But I'm a cheapo, and would rather spend $3k on a vacation than a mattress. Problem is that we were sleeping on a hand me down mattress from my grandmother's guest room that was 30+ years old.

My wife started researching the mail order foam mattresses and found one called the dream mattress. $400, delivered, king size. Just put it on the old box springs. Been sleeping on it for months now, and it's some of the best sleep I've ever gotten. Not perfect, but for the price and the comfort level, I'm happy.
