I will be heading to Port Isabel to relax and fish with my family. Can anyone familiar with the area give me some advice/tips. Thanks!
Also what is the best restaurant in the area?
Blackbeards and capt Roy's on the island good food. Cafe kranzler and sea ranch the two fanciest restaurants on the island. Local favorite Mexiquito Restauarnt in port Isabel for Texas size breakfast tacos all day, good enchiladas and great fish and shrimp.
Without a boat, I would get out on the jetties. Take you a good heavy set up that you can cast out there with. Throw some topwater or big spoons out there. Been quite a few King out there lately. Eat at Dirty Al's on your way back out.
I've caught tarpon, snook, and big mangrove snapper from the jetties as well as casting long rods from the beach by the jetty. One of my favorite spots to fish on the entire Texas coast!!
Bring a cast net and catch finger mullet in the surf for bait...everything will hit on them. Be sure you have back up spools of line to refill your reels when they get stripped...lol.
Another dirty als vote. I'd get the cold peel and eat shrimp or their new or lean style peel and eat, both are amazing. Go to the one on the island not in port Isabel. Both are good but the island is a touch better.
Looks like they've been wearing them out on the jetis lately. Also doing well in the surf.
If you wanna fish the surf while kids play pick up some green fish bites and you'll catch all the whiting you want. Throw some gulp or spoons into the second or third gut for specs, reds, etc.
I caught a tarpon right off the jetties using finger mullet, caught tons of lane and mangrove snapper on shrimp under popping cork right against the rocks. If boating the bays are SHALLOW
