    Energy Provider Houston

Asking for Green Screen expert advice on the best energy provider for the Houston area. I am usually between 1000 and 2000 kw, but the rules and fees are so crazy, it becomes difficult. Looking for first hand experience on a good rate on the bottom line.

Power to Choose is the official, unbiased, electric choice website of the Public Utility Commission of Texas, where all certified electric providers in the State of Texas are eligible to post their electric plans. On the Power to Choose website you can compare electric offers and choose the plan that's right for you.

After picking out a few options from power to choose. org I go the the companies individual websites to get more info. Once I narrowed it down to 2-3 companies I call them directly. I always ask what would be my final bill if I used 1000, 1500, 2000kw. I really don't care so much about price per kilowatt, it is all the fees that will sneak up on you. Cant tell you who to go to because they change so fast. I normally go for a 12 month plan, but if you like doing this every 6 months, go with a 6 month plan. If you think you are getting a good deal, maybe go with a 24month plan. I lived in Houston for 6 years and think I used a total of 3 different providers. Reliant was one, then a couple off brands I don't remember. Never had a problem.

Energy Ogre is supposed to be a good tool to use. My cousin and aunt use it to find the best rates. I have never used it so I dont know for sure.

I use Cirro and it's been a good experience so far. They were one of the cheaper options. We were moving out of an older town home that was very drafty to a brand new home roughly 2x the sq ft of our townhouse. We had no clue what the consumption would be in the new place so we elected to go with a fixed rate plan. Now that I have a few months of usage, the next go round I'll go variable if it saves me money.

They're just billing companies/middle men so it doesn't matter where your located. Like stated above. Check the fees....base charge, rates for different kwh's used, etc. I also noted the customer service ratings on power to choose. When you switch, make sure you check the right box and/or don't say you want it switched on a certain date...they'll smack you with a bs fee like out of cycle meter reading. Just went thru this and had to get my $27 back! Told em to fix it and refund me because I know the meter reader and it didn't happen! Chk your bills close.

Powertochose.org. I thought this was hokey until we tried it a year ago. I have a 35 yo house that's not particularly energy efficient. My bills in July and August would run $400+. My bill for June was $140.00 and we didn't worry about the thermostat setting.

                            I use Trieagle

Only fee is 4.95 then it's a standard price per kw.

Same here. I was paying $500+ a month during the summer. Switched from TXU to Amigo, who I found on the Powertochoose site. Now we pay around $200. That's with the pool and a wife who keeps turning down the thermostat at night.
