Sorry to hear that man. Jake Carter that used to own Higher Ground Taxidermy in Alto did the same sort of thing. Dumped a ton of animals on a taxidermist in Palestine without asking anybody, and left town. He had my best buck ever and it was one of the ones he pawned off. I got lucky, and the taxidermist he left it with finished it for me and it turned out great. But, he lost my cape so I had to get another, and he told me he'd save the velvet (buck was in full velvet in October) but he didn't, so that sucked. He's in San Angelo working at Safari Studios now, and somehow made his way onto the board for Texas taxidermists. He's a scumbag so I have no idea how that happened. And, I killed it in 2014 and got it back about a month ago. But all that aside, hope it works out for you. You just can't trust people anymore.

Looks like to me he's on meth and selling everyone's stuff. Good luck but I doesn't look promising.

always have the taxidermist cape the deer when you drop it off and keep the antlers until he is ready for them. worst case you loose your cape and your deposit but you have your antlers.

a lot can change in someone's personal life in 6-9 months.

Had the same thing happen to me with a taxi out of Cedar Park. Game warden can't help but one call to local Pd filed as theft of 2 deer and 1 turkey, they found him in Snyder tx and I got them back. Sure worth a try.

I only have a couple shoulder mounts but always kept the horns myself till he was ready for them...never understood if they were local of leaving them hanging for months when you could be enjoying them??

Anyway, not saying it cannot happen if you have connections or they are part time quality type, but with 'good' taxis...gang, very few are gonna commit to 5 months if they are actually good. This would have set off my radar as would a 'cheap quote.'

If there was ever a candidate for forced castration and then having his eyes gouged out with a dull butter knife.....this is him.

A deer like that, I'd be paying him a personal visit.
