Been here a couple of days plenty to do but yea the traffic is horrible and it is very crowded. Other than that no complaints!

If you go back, find a place to stay off of 30A. Blue Mountain, Grayton Beach, or Seagrove Beach to name a few. Tons of places to eat and things to do. Can get crowded, but not Destin crowded especially on the beaches. We stay at Adagio condos, and have the beach to ourselves. I can't handle the Destin crowds/traffic. Takes all the relaxation out of my vacation.
We're leaving for a week in Ft. Walton beach this coming Sunday. I really enjoy it there. I got sick of overpaying and fighting the crowds in Port A just to sit on a muddy, stinky beach with brown water. We tried Destin/Ft. Walton beach about 5 years ago and this year will be our 4th year. I've gotten to the point that I almost refuse to go out to eat in Destin. It just not my thing, very little in the way of food would tempt me to fight the crowds and stand around for 1+ hour with kids and all just waiting on a table. We typically try to go out one night out of 5 and that's plenty for me. We've done McGuires and several of the other places. They are okay but again, I could honestly care less. Last year we went offshore fishing which was great, we're going with a different guide this year which should be awesome. Other than that, the Aquarium in Ft. Walton beach is pretty cool, they have a dolphin show that is great for younger kids. We paid extra one year when our kids were younger and they got to stay after the show and go down with the trainers and pet the dolphin, etc..... Sorta like a mini Sea World show.
Everyone talks about the traffic and how crowded Destin is. I do agree, it is pretty busy in Destin and I try to avoid getting out as much as possible. Staying in Ft. Walton beach allows us to avoid some of that unless you venture into Destin to go eat. I personally don't think its all that much worse than Port A though. We went to Port A last month and both nights we went out we waited over an hour for a table so it happens everywhere. Enjoy your time there, we love going.
Go to one of the fishing piers. You can pay a small fee to walk out and watch or for a few dollars more you can fish. They rent fishing gear or go to the Bass Pro and buy your own. No Out Of State Fishing License required! Kind of like going to a state park in Texas.
