Heck, if you're out of Gulfport, just get you a fishin' pole and some soft plastics (almost any kind) any color as long as it has chartreuse somewhere on it and go catch your own!!

After reading on here and on 2Cool about how well the Down South Lures are working over here, I took a few packs with me in Texas roach, and a couple other colors... For me, they worked the most consistent. However, the old time baits from years ago worked well too. One morning, I started out with a double hook drop with sparkle beetles, clear/glitter on top and chartreuse/glitter on the bottom... caught 5 trout in 3 casts. Had 2 more coming in when a shark got them both along with my popping cork...

Great trip Charlie! ... and as usual great write up. You are as long winded as me[emoji13]

Congrats on your big fish but judging by that pic there is no way that fish is a hair over 26 and 99/100. [emoji13][emoji23]

          Seriously though congrats[emoji1303]

Man, that looks like the trip of a lifetime! I have passed on a couple invites to go over there, I am re-thinking that now. May have to get a group together and hit it next Summer.

Everyone tells us that Fall fishing and specifically October is the best time to fish the islands for big trout... well we were gonna book the VI for October.... they're booked for 2017 and 18!! I can't imagine it being any better than what we experienced! Captain Austin told us that our fish size was more like Fall fishing, but they get more on the top end size... I'd love to catch a sack full of 27 inchers! I can't imagine...

                        Love that place

All I throw out there is big sassy shad imitations. Cheap and they work great for trout. Was there a wreck/accident out there. Just curious. A guy that guides out there said it was a close call. Anyways great trip. Glad things are looking back to the norm out there.

                          Charlie,

We got a line on a boat for October. Only 36' but it comes with Austin...

Curious, is this the same trip where a couple guys in your party almost took the dirt nap? I swear there was a thread 2 days ago about how one boat lost power and the follow boat and driver didn't realize and ran completely over a boat with passengers and miraculously no one was killed. Same trip?
