Port Mansfield For 5 Days: T- Minus 3 Hours

Noon can't get here quick enough. Headed to PM for five days of fishing. This will be my first trip down there so I'm Super Pumped!! I'll try to post pics daily and keep a fishing report going.
Who has been? Any good stories to share? I feel like I'm 8 and it's Christmas Eve.

I'd be excited too. My family used to have a summer place out there. I was really young but I remember blue crap trapping, great trout/red fishing on live shrimp, and a collapsing pier. Lol Where about will you be fishing? Plan on hiring a guide?

I'll be in the boat with TBH'r TxWader. He has been fishing down there for many many years. There is a big group going, this is their 18th year doing this trip and I was lucky enough to get on the list this year. Given this, I'm sure I will be fishing out of the back of the boat and netting other peoples fish.

Just got back from a 7 day trip.

My advice, whether soaking croaker or chunking lures, is get wet! Can't tell you how many boats pulled up, ran a quick drift without a single bite and then buzzed on by. All the while we were hammering solid trout. Fished south and north, bite was the same all over. Target sand pockets in grass lines. Shallow early, chest deep when the sun climbs. Fish were also on windblown shorelines on sand and heavy shell throughout the day.

        Good luck!

Red and white. Dark with a chartreuse tail. Used mainly trout killers and a few red killers.

Sounds like you are in for a great time! Five days is perfect - you can really relax and enjoy yourself. Most of the time I only get to fish two days and you really have to get lucky with the weather and other conditions. When you have five days you don't feel like you have to flog the water non-stop the entire time. Enjoy!

Anyone in particular I need to give a hard time at the bait stand? Also, do I get a TBH discount on Croaker?

LOL! Good luck getting croaker, they have been in high demand.

Zcole - didn't know you guys owned Poco Loco. Will have to stop in and say hi next time!

Oh, I did use your cleaning table a few times. Quite nice!

I fish Port Mansfield a few times every year.

Always fishing topwater there, I drift flats in my flats skiff and never had a trip where I didn't have a limit of specks and reds, every day I fished.

I never have to get wet.....I drift in about 7" of water and work drop off edges down wind, covering out a bit deeper along the drop off edges, casting lures. Probably the most consistent artificial fishing spot on the Texas coast? Never used live bait myself there so I can't speak to fishing that technique.

Solid Snook & Tarpon scene near the rocks I might add. I've dumped a couple of spools locked on to stuff I couldn't turn there.
