    Directional Feeders?

Has anyone ever used any of the directional feeders? I have a spot on a BIG creek that I want to put up a feeder and I want to get a directional feeder to throw the corn down into the creek bottom into the sand to use as a good ambush spot for a hog hunting location. I just wanted to know if anyone has used any of the feeders and if they liked them and which ones to avoid!
    Thanks Tim jackson

The 12 volt Kenco I purchased a few years back didn't last one season. It was noisy as heck and didn't through corn all that far.

I've had luck with wiring a piece of tin on the side of the feeder I don't want the corn to throw on. The corn hits the tin & then ricochets back towards the direction I'm after. Has a nice dinner bell affect to it as well.

The only thing we ever used them for was throwing feed into ponds for the catfish. They worked ok for that but like said above........ very loud and didn't throw far.

I know Tuthdoc uses some air drive feeders and seems to like them. I saw Cabelas had a Remington directional feeder the other day for $40 or so.

The Remington should work fine then. PIggies don't care if it loud, they just care if it has a golden shower!

My only experience is with the Remington directional feeder. I only keep it for a few weeks. I did not care much for the design of it. The way it trickles feed down using the "wheel", doesn't allow you to throw much corn. I had to up the feed amounts to around 20 or so seconds each. Even at that it...not much comes out.

I like the idea of a Directional feeder...but the Remington wasn't what I needed for my set ups.

Having said that, I could see using it as a secondary feeder or for special purposes. Just depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

I'm interested in this thread...Hopefully we will get more feed back.

I've had two or three over the years, but never one that worked very well.

                  Good Luck

I have one. My #2 stand has a spin cast and last weekend the north wind was blowing the corn off the spinner plate south and this weekend the south wind was blowing it north... Gravity feed system so as soon as it blows off it's ready again... Got probably a bag of corn on the ground too!!
                          Other than that, no clue.

No, it was more like ~$60 ish and had used two 6 volt batteries to power it.
It was a Wal-mart purchase if I remember correctly. All plastic construction.

It would make a lot of clanking rucuss sounding as if it was chewing rocks as it threw the corn out. IMO it should have thrown way more corn for the amount or racket it was making.

I used a Kenco three way several years ago for that exact application. It worked fine....I did find I had to run the feed time a little longer...but so what. I never had any trouble out of mine. Used it for the entire season on a 30 gallon barrel. I ended up leaving it for a friend to use , but it was destroyed the next season. Love me some cows!
