Question for the gas well experts

A company that owned a few wells on the property had wanted to sell them. There was obviously a good reason they wanted to. They ended up plugging every one. It was mentioned that the sand caused issues. The wells were all drilled in the late 80's.

Would it have been cost prohibitive to try and fix the problem? Is it something that couldn't be corrected even with new technology?

Exact details on well data were not provided. All the cables, pipes, and pumps were pulled of course.

First you would have to drill out the cement plug if they did it properly. They usually also cut the surface casing down to a certain depth which will add to the cost. Its not worth it with NG at the current price which is why they P&A'd them instead of selling to someone else. He k, a lot of companies will give the wells to other small operators just for assuming the P&A requirements.

Almost guaranteed the reservoir was depleted
No one plugs and abandons an asset. There is always a buyer if
There are reserves still available. And the new buyer assumes plugging liability so usually he gets a better price for the lease. Just my 35 years in the business.
