    Scissors Tails in the city

Why do they not make it in the city? You see them in rural areas and outskirts....but soon as an area become developed their gone?

Come up to round rock and go to old settlers park behind the dell diamond.
Largest population of city dwelling scissor tails in the country.

It's all about habitat. Most cities do. It provide the critical pieces they need. Like quail, if the habitat is right and conditions they explode.

Like txtimetravler said, it's all about habitat. If their needs are being met, they'll stick around. I think that since they seem to prefer open grassland where they can catch bugs on the fly, when that gets turned into houses & lawns, there's nothing left for them to eat so they leave.

Being a flycatcher, scissor-tails need open areas to catch bugs as stated. I've heard of them being plentiful in Round Rock. I have them around me but in this heat most of the time you don't see them unless defending their territory from a cooper's hawk.

I believe you have them mistaken with the shrikes.
