I am building a new house and the garage is not insulated in the bid. Is it worth paying extra to insulate the walls and ceiling in the garage or not and any idea what it would cost( 40' of walls and 550 sq. ft. of ceiling).

I insulated mine just recently during my build. My door is a metal insulated 18' door. It was $1450 for the door at overhead door. They are delivering it and installing it. It comes white so it can be painted. Special order wood doors and metal doors with the wood look are $3500-$4500 for that same size. Plus the opener. I have ac and heat ducted to my garage as a dump zone from upstairs. My buddy did his and he said his garage stays within a few degrees of his interior temps and he doesn't have his garage ducted. Good luck

Insulate now! and use a insulated garage door. Insulated garage doors are only like $100-200 more.
At the very least do the walls. You can go back and do the ceiling without ripping out sheetrock. You are looking at 10 rolls of insulation for the walls. $122 in material
ADD EXTRA PLUGS IN THE GARAGE!!!!!!

I had a house built last year and my father-in-law and I insulated the walls of my 3 car garage in 1 day. I used blown in insulation and Home Depot offers free blower rental if you buy a minimum amount. The rental guy let me know they wouldn't charge me rental if I returned the leftover bales of insulation. I plan on getting stick-on garage door insulation from Home Depot for $70/car width. Later on I may drop the money for a mini split system to cool it in the summer. Maybe...

I did mine myself when they were about to sheet rock
Went to home depot and bought the pink stuff and spent a few hours one evening .... mine wasn't in bid either
What a huge difference it made.. my garage is always 15 degree cooler than outside. . I still haven't done the garage door but that's on the to do list when funds get better
