    Youth arrow setup

What's the best arrow setup for a kid? My son is 12 and has been shooting very sporadic over the last 5-6 yrs or so. I've always just used some of my old arrows cut down for him, but now that he's getting older and can hunt with a bow I want to set up some arrows for him that are correct. What size vanes are best for accuracy etc. his draw weight is around 31lbs right now in hopes to gain some strength and bump that up over the summer by deer season. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and god bless.

My boys both use Beman ICS junior hunters...or something like that. I think the arrows are 24". They both draw about 30lbs and each have a 21-22" draw length. 100gr points. They both can group pretty good at 15-20yds. Are you sure your son's bow is set up right? What about his form and release technique?

Yes it is setup right. What I meant by sporadic wasn't referring to the groupings but more towards just the amount he shoots in general.

I would think the heavier the better. I'll have to check and see what my boy is shooting.

I was thinking heavier too but than I was thinking it would slow down an already slow arrow due to low poundage setup idk.

How does it penetrate? Has he killed anything with that poundage setup?

No killing yet. I still have to make him shoot with me.

I know how you feel. Have to almost force mine to shoot as well.
