    Just wondering how many remember

The old alpha code to start a phone number back in the day. Ours was PA1-2763. No need for area codes within the city.

We lived in small towns when I was a kid. All of the phone numbers were 4 digits. Kinda wish we could go back...

Same here back in Kenai,AK. Only had to dial the last 4 digits. If you wanted to make a call to Soldotna (sister city) you only had to dial the last 5 digits. To call the rest of the state, only 7 digits. No need for the area code anywhere within the state.

Deer Park was Greenwood or GR, ours was GR9-2481!

Moved to Cleveland in 1975 and shared a party line for a few years.

4 digit phone numbers and party lines! Oh the good old days. Unscrew the microphone off the mouthpiece and listen to your neighbors talk

Yep, remember the party lines too. My Great Grandmother was on a party line at Brownwood Lake, and my great aunt was on one at our property in Scroggins.

Oh, and the first phone number I remember having as a kid as EF7-8453

I remember party lines well. My grand mother would complain that so and so down the road was listening to every bodies phone calls

We started out with a 4 digit then they added FR in front of it then FR+number prefix in the 50 to early 60's. Grandparents had a 4 digit party line in 50's then all the way into the 70's.

I was around before cell phones. I remember getting a linear amplifier for my C B radio so I could call home from fishing down the Mexican beach. I had a base station with a tall antenna at the house.

I may have forgotten a lot of things but I still remember the phone number I had to memorize before going to kindergarten in 1961. I would say the number as "Webster 63512" (You would dial the first two numbers of the exhange - 9,3 in this case)
