    Looking For Tree Stand Ideas

One of the places I hunt frequently in the hill country has plenty of oaks around my feeders. In two of the oaks I have built 2 different tree stands that are very basic, safe and fairly comfortable. They consist of 2x4's and plywood, and are triangular in shape. The issue is - noise. Outdoor carpet doesn't dampen noise quite enough and I want to put something in it that will last. Anybody have an idea or two for me?

Also, I have stretched bailing wire along the sides of the blinds to hang branches from for cover. I'm not wild about camo canvas, it looks really unnatural when the wind picks up. Does anyone have a better idea?

What I have done with the camo material is use the duck blind type and use 1" ckichen wire by about 3 or 4' tall depending on the circumstances, unroll the wire and attach the camo to the wire using a paper stapler and tie raps. You can then roll it back up to cary to stand. Then strech it across in front of my blind using limbs and nailed or screwed up boards. The ckichen wire keeps it still even in 30 mi winds. You can get 10' rolls at lowes for about $10.

Great idea, could use that on a tripod also.

Thanks Coop, I think I'll give that a shot this weekend. Sounds like something that will last also. Any ideas for quietening the plywood?

If you need something better than carpet to dampen noise on your platform, you might try a thick rubber stall mat - I know Tractor Supply carries them

Greet feed back guys... The stall mat idea is excellent, super quiet and I'm sure comfortable. The problem with the egg foam mat is that it will rot out first rain. Coop - I'll take some pics also, curious to see how they compare.

Coop - I took your advice and set it up Friday evening. It worked great and took hardly anytime at all. I'll post some pics Monday mornin. I looked into the mat idea, they are just to darn heavy. The thinest mat I found was 1 inch thick.

Final product - pretty comfortable and very secure. I used cattle paneling instead of chicken wire, it's just a little stronger and supports the branches better. Thanks again...
