    Feeder pen panel size?

How tall is a good height to keep cows out? I'm running free choice protein and a corn feeder in it. And we'll they really frac stuff up! So I need to keep them out. What's a good size panel in height to keep them out, and still let the deer in? Thanks

I like the 48 or 50" cattle panels with one level cutoff making them 42-44"....

I have also been known to cut another layer off one panel to give them an easy play to jump in and strategically make them jump in the pen in range.

52" cattle panel for certain, but hog panels, 36" could work but cows will jump them on occasion.

I've used 36" hog panels on 6 different properties and never had a single cow in them. I have heard of other people saying they can get in them but like I said, I've never had it happen. I think it really just depends on the cattle and how hungry they are. They have had pretty good food at my places so that may be the reason the 36" panels work for me.

I'll second this - we are able to get away with the 36" panels and net wire with t-posts. Cows starting bothering it a little bit, so I stretched a single barb wire across the top of each of the panels and tied it to the top.

Me too. Been using the 34" panels for 20 years and never had a cow or pig jump into a pen. All my pens are a minimum 8 panels, usually 10-12.

I to use 36" hog panels and cows have yet to get into my pens. Probably can happen but they have not in like 11 years.

Yes the size could have something to do with it also as all of mine have been 12-20 panels.

Yup size matters for the 34" panels.... At least it did for these cows on a place I was on in Lipan, Texas. Ironically they were well fed with good range conditions...

That pen was too small. 4 panels and square. You put corn and protein within a foot or two of a cows nose....ya, they'll go thru it. Glad you caught on!

Shazam.....Maybe you missed the size matters and the increase later......

It was merely an illustration that they will and can lean on them and get over them if they are hungry. We've had the 34" jumped at our current place in Christoval with 15 panels when the range conditions were poor. That's why we went to the taller panel here too and cut it back some.

That may be the record for smallest size pen Ive ever seen you cheap #*&$^&#^$. LOL

I use hog panels and have never had a cow get over. But I make them with a minimum of 10-12 panels round with 15 being a lot better.

I agree the smaller the pen the taller the panels need to be.

I like to give them plenty of room to get in and out an not feel "penned in". I build 'em big enough where no corn makes it outside the pen ( in fact, usually not within 10-12 feet of the border). It costs more but better to build it once than have to keep repairing it.

Oh, thought you were saying 34" panels were too short. Your hog panel were upside down also.

Looks like you had already conditioned those wellfare cattle.......they know who butters their bread!
