Xbox 360 and the Red LEDs of Death

The console about six months old. Had a loud click while playing a movie last night and it start showing the three red LEDs indicating hardware failure. Should I send out for repair or just trash it and buy another?

Trash it to my address and buy another bro, it's just now worth it. I'll take it off your hands.

Call them. They will send you a shipping label to your email. Print it put the xbox in a box put the label on and send it off 2-3 weeks or so and you will have it back good as new. That happened to mine not to long ago. They fixed it for free.

If the console is still under warranty and has the warranty seal intact (silver seal behind the faceplate) then you need to send it back to M$. They will refurb it and send it back to you in a few weeks.

If it is out of warranty let me know and I can give you instructions on a fix you can do yourself for about $10 (Depending on the exact error).

              best of luck

we send back a trailer load(53ft) every week of xbox 360 back to microsoft. go spend the 20.00 at gamestop and buy the fan that goes on the back. 95% of the problems are overheating.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT do this. 1. This fan has been known to shortout and cause power supply related issues on version 1 & 2 360's (Xenon and Zephyr Boards). Also If M$ finds out that you have used one of these fans they can void your warrant for attaching a unauthorized device.

I agree that the majority of the issues are heat related, however this fan doe nothing for temperature drop (design principap, fan has to be moved to the the front of the CPU and GPU and push air to the rear exit fans, this is how my modded box is done and how most people who mod boxes keep them working).

Best bet just send it to MS (like I said above if it is still under Warranty and has seal). Otherwise let me know and I will walk you through fixing it yourself.

BTW here is a link to the fan to avoid, Nyko Intercooler. It is sold under a few different names, but it is all the same china made piece of crap.
