    Jugging in Louisiana

My buddy Jeff down in Houma just sent me this. I think we was in the canals near Lake Theriot. I've fished with him down there a couple of times and we pulled several 40+ lb cats out. On his last jug of the day, he got more than he bargained for...

Bad language, so turn down/off the volume

That would be the last time I saw that jug. That gator can have it.

Not uncommon for that area. My little brother jug lines all the time and catches a gator or two every year. All you can do is attempt to cut the line.

On the subject of lake Theriot, i wish that doctor wouldn't have bought the lake and barricaded it off. We used to fish the canal that feeds the lake. Sacalait would stack up in there in the spring, you could walk across the boats stacked in there. Had a buddy who bought into the lake Theriot duck club just for the rights to fish the lake and canal. Now its silted in in most places, he got off the club.

Fresh gator to go with the catfish! When I was a kid we went over there and dad lost several troutlines.

My buddy is in the club, and he says the same thing. He keeps his membership because it is cheap and is fun place to go play. We go out there late at night and go froggin when I'm in town. Those gators ain't no joke though!

No joke at all. We saw some good ones this spring during mating season. Fished the canals just to the north of Theriot in Bayou Black down by Orange Grove area and you can hear the gators croaking. Sounded like giant bull frogs but much louder.
My little bro has been putting a hurting on them frogs this year. Time for a frog leg fry!

That's exactly where we go. Jeff has a hard hat with a 2MM candlepower bulb on it at 20ft leads that plug straight into the boat battery. You spotlight everywhere you look, and when you scan those canals all you see are pairs of red dots everywhere... gotta be careful when frogging by hand or else you could lose a hand!

I might have moved out of the swamps, but i take several trips "home" for fishing every year. I was born at Terrebonne General there in Houma. Used to launch out of Cannons boat landing across from LCM (now Archrock) where my dad used to work on Southdown Mandalay Rd. Now we just launch at Bob's Bayou Black Marina in Gibson.

Come to think of it, i need to make another trip down to fish Dularge. Trout are tearing it up right now

                        Would that make 'em "tree-shaka's"?

I'm headed to Theriot on Friday (if that dang storm isn't there!!) for two days of fishing. Never been but the guy I am going with goes several times a year. Can't wait. I'd love to catfish and catch some frogs for eating but reckon a flatlander like me would not be very successful?? Assuming the storm hits there on Thursday, will it mess up the fishing for specs and reds?
