Biggest I've seen was a little over 5' that I killed in Victoria County. I'm happy I haven't seen bigger as that one was enough to almost make me change my pants walking past it dove hunting

When I was a kid my grandma took me up to Natoma,Kansas to see my Aunt and to show me where she grew up. We'd drive around out in the country and look at old farm houses and they would talk about who lived there back in the old days, what ever happened to those people and so on and so forth. Well I remember I'd sit in the back seat right in the middle on that arm rest that folded down in them old Lincolns because I wanted to see where we were and what was going on.
Anyways we were driving down an old black top and hit a bullsnake that sounded like we ran over a 2x4 or something when the car went over it. Keep in mind I was a kid so maybe it looked bigger than it really was but I could have swore it took up the whole lane on our side of the road. I remember feeling the car hit that snake and I turned around to look back at it and that thing was crawling off into the ditch. I'm sure it killed it but in my mind we had just hit a python or something. I got pretty upset because them ladies wouldn't go back and let me have a better look at that son of a gun. I've seen some good sized bullsnakes since that day but I'd sure like to know how big that snake really was.
I've always been fascinated with snakes ever since I was little. I wouldn't shut up about it and I think by the end of the day they were both ready to go back and look for it just so I'd be quiet.Last edited by okrattler; 06-18-2017, 12:07 PM.

Both were timber rattlers. One in my Dad's back yard that was exactly 61" and another I saw in a pipeline that was every bit of 5' too. I've killed two diamond backs about 4' long in West Tx and saw a chicken snake that was over 5' in Big Thicket growing up.Last edited by Pineywoods; 06-18-2017, 12:24 PM.

Caught a blue indigo that was 9'6"
Seen a blue indigo that was easily 10-11 feet. Freaking massive and it went into some nasty brush before I could get to it

6'4" is the biggest Western Diamondback I've ever caught, Freer TX. Caught 11 one affternoon on Bryan Beach, smallest was 5'1O" and the largest was 6'2".
Saw a monster WDB crossing the firebreak into the Smyth Ranch that made the 6' 4" one I caught look really small, Uvalde CO.
Largest Canebrake was 5'6" on family property in Tyler CO, relocated.
Shot a 52" and 48" Cotton Mounth the same day in the SHNF walking a creek bottom, late 6O's.
The biggest I've caught has been heavy 7'-7'6" Indigos, catch and release only.

Caught several 8ft+ Black Rat snakes. As a kid, I remember my uncle stopping traffic on a 2 lane, country, blacktop, to allow a Timber Rattle, to cross the road.
It was draped from one side to the other. My uncle wouldn't even tell people about it, said no one would believe him.
This was around Tates Bluff, in South Ar, 1986/87.

Came across a western diamond back that was 80". I could never kill one that size as they are so rare. My brothers fear of snakes lead him to kill it. We skinned and tanned it. Mounted it on a boared.
We found that one between 6-7000 foot elevation. When I'm in the same area I always hope to see one as impressive but I have not been able to yet. Maybe it was a once in a lifetime experience?
The old bar that is closed now had one that was 84" on the wall.
