    Lower Back Injections

Had lower back surgery in 1986 and it's been good but here lately it's really been acting up again. It seems like every month or so it gets bad and I am hurting tremendously. After about a week or so it clears up and then we start over. I am beginning to think about possibly back injections, as I really don't want another surgery.
Opinions and also recommended Doctors in the Humble / Houston area, if you all have any.

    Thanks so much !

When my back started giving me serious grief (sciatica) I opted for the shots. Probably had 5-6 and then they just weren't doing anything for me so I had surgery for a herniated disc. Now some 10 years later I just had my first steroid shot since the surgery and it didn't really do much at all except cost me $3,000. Ouch!

Best of luck to you. I don't live in that part of the world so I can't help you with recommendations.

Guys I don't have time right at this moment to type out a long explanation so I'm going to leave my web address here for you to read a little. There is always a major ingredient missing when deciding to have surgery or injections. That is muscle function/strength. I keep trying to avoid these conversations because I don't want to appear to be advertising on here. I just can't keep sitting back reading about people having all these problems.
Mods if we need to talk about a sponsorship then let's talk.
Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) is a revolutionary muscle technique that corrects muscular imbalances that cause pain and limit performance.

I've had the injections and they helped. Haven't had one in five years.

I've had 2 injections for a herniated disc. My suggestion is to find someone that knows what they are doing. The first injection was zero relief. The second one hurt like heck, but I was told that was a good thing. I've had 90 percent relief and have resumed all activities including globo gym and CrossFit. I'm actually considering canceling the 3rd injection because I've gotten so much relief and don't want to mess up the progress.

The injections are only to get you up and going so you can rehab and build a stronger core. They are not the fix all.

I did two and not the third and it worked for me as I felt the same.

I have had 3 rounds in between the shoulders. So higher back not lower back.
I will not do it again.
I personally did not benefit from.
I think it's patient to patient as to how anyone responds. And sometimes it takes several rounds before you get benefits from.
Strong core and lose weight seems to be the best answer for back problems.

There was a resent nightly news article detailing the success with a process for knees and lower backs. You might consider looking into it. www.mycoolief.com

Have had two injections in the lower back 10 years apart. After both I felt like a new man for about a week and then back to the pain. Waste of time and money IMO.

Dr. Henry Small in the Med Center. You won't find a better doc!!!! Even if you don't need surgery he will tell you that and refer you to someone or somewhere that can help. Best of all he has had a few surgeries so he knows what it's like.

My injections came in a series of 3, one weekly for 3 weeks. I was totally pain free for years after that.

I had all of the above. Shots... First one gave me about 6 mos relief. Second, third, and fourth....worse and worse. Last one gave me about 2 weeks of relief. I've had laminectomy, discectomy, and fusion (lumbar and cervical). Avoid the surgery if you can. It has helped me...but it's not the same as it was...and there is always going to be pain. Yeah...they don't tell you that at the front...but they will say it when you complain after surgery. UGH! Good luck whatever you decide!

Had one. Didn't help. What did help was stretching excercises.

First steroid injection I had for a herniated disc and 2 bulging discs lasted for 4 years, but it was very painful to take the shot. the others injections over the years that totaled at least 10 did not last and they kept getting worse on the pain level. I finally avoided surgery and went with physical therapy and as long as I do not do something stupid, then pain level has been very low, but if I do something stupid like trying to lift something too heavy, then my back will tell me that I was stupid and not do it again.
