lost key to truck, THE ONLY KEY !!

drove home from the lease last nite. came home, set my keys, wallet, phone, knife all in the same place as I always do. get up this morning to take atv to car wash and guess what? no keys. my regular set of keys was moved as my wife/ son moved my other truck. now, the keys to the other truck are gone. son, "I don't know..." wife, "I haven't seen them". so, I need a key to my truck. (no, I don't have a spare)

can I get a replacement key from dealer with the vin #? call a locksmith? whats the quickest, easiest solution?

I'm not 100% sure but they may be able to make a copy based on your VIN #

My son lost the ONLY key to a VW jetta we had to have the car towed to a dealership and the cost for just the key was around 400 dollars because it had to be programmed to the car.

Did your key have a chip?

Depends on the truck. I have a '12 Ford, it has a chip in it, and a code that needs to be programmed into the remote. Without this code or another key to duplicate from, the key is like $500. If I have the code, or a spare key, its like 200. I was told at the time, only a dealership can make the code work so the truck will actually start, but anyone can cut a key for the ignition.

Hope your truck doesn't have that issue.

Locksmith can do it. I had it done not long ago. Depending on what kind of truck, they may have to call the dealer to get the code. Mine they didn't have to, because I had a key for the door. They just plugged their computer up and 20 min later had a key. I think they charged me $150.00.

Regardless of how much it costs, you will find the other keys within a few days of getting the new one made.

Yep. Had this happen while on vacation a few years back. Had to have the car towed in, key ordered, programmed, and cut. Total cost was $700ish. $100-125 tow, $500 key, and 1 hour labor for cut and program. If it's a popular key they shouldn't have to order it. Should just cut it or cut/program it.

Replacement key for 2010 Equinox was $250 or so at the dealer, but only 2 for $35 or so on Amazon, plus $95 each to have then cut by the locksmith. I hadn't lost the key but the rubber push buttons had completely dissolved (think OFF! repellent on them)

Search ebay. I went on a call one time and this pakistany family had plastic bins stacked to the ceiling all over the house. The bins were full of keys. That is all they do for a living was sell replacement keys on ebay.

Pop a lock will make keys on site. I'm sure most locksmith companies have mobile vans.
