    Mortons neuroma anyone?

any runners on here who have had this problem? Mine just came up several months ago - doctor put me on advil for several weeks to stop inflamation. I am considering a shot - also need new running shoes with more cushion.

Anybody had this issue and what did you have done?

I had surgery on one, the other still has the knot. It flairs up when I push it exercise wise on the balls of my feet or hiking in stoney areas. My hiking shoes are like moccasins and I can feel everything under my foot. I'm going to get the other foot worked on one day. I only fix things one side at a time. Shots didn't do nuthin for me cept hurt. Any shoe I wear now must allow for an almost complete spread of my toes while on the balls of my foot.

I know Pediatrist are supposed to know how to fix feet but I just wasn't happy with the ones I saw concerning ANY issue. I got to a point that my foot pains from various conditions would exhaust me and I was fed up with the Doctors and this BS place called Goodfeet where I plopped down a wasted $1,100 plus. I cured Plantar Fasciitis in two weeks my way.

I catch crap for my methods from people all the time but hey, they work for me. My feet and heels have seen fractures, punctures, severe cuts, and extreme abuse.

The only condition I could not fix myself was Morton's. I think once that knot builds up around those nerves, you ain't fixin that.

I don't know your age or if the condition is reversible without surgery for the young, I was 47 and the knot was there to stay. What I do know is you can get to the point where you want that knot out so bad, you don't care if you can move or feel those toes again.

I had surgery to remove one in my right foot. They tried shots, never helped for more than a few days. It's been several years and no problems since. Mine got so bad before the surgery that I could not walk on it.

More support, more cushion, constrained toes, ain't the way. Another thing, arch support is bad but if there is too much pressure just fowrd of the arch in the center just behind the ball, it can damage those nerves too.

Most shoes and boots are literally a cast for your ankles and feet weakening them.

The feet are very complex, and even more sensative than your hands for a reason.

so no issues with the surgery? I understand you lose feeling in one or two toes? I will keep running 15 miles a week so I need to get it done right

Lost feeling in toes 3 and 4 for about 9 months. Slowly came back. Surgery was back in 2008. I was told there was a possibility that it could regrow and happen again, but no problems yet.

Check out airrosti.com. I've worked on some with good success. Many times it is because of your running gait/form and striking wrong a whole lotta times. Many times it comes back after surgery because you don't fix the problem. We can work on the soft tissue aspect of the injury and then lead you in the direction of corrective rehab

Had multiple injections two surgeries and RF treatment. The RF helped the most. Look at Newton shoes and get some insoles from Take Five Burkonstock. Trust me on this.

Surgery 2 years ago. Numb for over a year, every once in a while I get that bolt of lightening up my leg so I'm afraid mine's coming back.

Its one of things that if its bad enough, your danged if you don't, and no feeling is better than that stone in your shoe feeling.

If you can feel that knot with your fingers or thumb, its surgery time.

I know all the speculation as to what can cause it, toe area bound up, wafflely or soles with air spots in it for so called impact absorbtion, or too much cushion, and it leaves a big question mark?

I do think the above is possible because the foot is supposed to come into contact with the ground because if it doesn't even your bones themself get softer so I have to wonder if the ball of your foot flexing down into cushions doesn't start something unnatural happening.

Wife has had them for years. Shots only caused more pain. Several years ago we talked to a surgeon who said he could fix them when she could not deal with it any more.

Shoes are a big help. Hiking boots with hard bottoms help a lot. Also pads in the shoes positioned to stop the knot from taking the impact. Go to Walmart and get over the counter Arnica Gel and rub that into them. There is a muscle in your lower leg, front side, outside edge that when massaged will help circulation to the nerves which also helps. Using those methods has reduced them and kept here out of surgery while walking 3 miles a day and hiking 7 or 8 miles a day in the mountains on vacation.

thanks for all the info - I tried the inserts of all types and they just put more pressure on the spot - I think mine has to be a result of 37 years of running. I am good about keeping my running shoes updated but have never worried about any particular type - in retrospect my shoes may not be wide enough and are compressing my toes. I am going to look into the Newton shoes and some others and go to a company that specializes in running shoes - surgery will be last resort for me

at this point it is not unbearable - just comes and goes and an irritant - I wear flip flops 8-9 months out of the year but my doc said that is good as they let my toes and feet spread out

I really think the Newton design with the lugs that compress move the pressure towards the back of your foot and away from the nerve that is giving you the problem. The Birkonstock insole does the same and for me it was instant relief. I have them in ever pair of shoes. Shoes that have removable insoles I slide them under them for extra comfort.
Good luck I can FEEL YOUR PAIN......

                              I work on feet

I would recommend vionic flip flops . They have a good arch support which will help

Birkenstocks a lot of time are great for this if they don't irritate it

Runners are the hardest to calm down due to every step it lands on the area that they nerve is

The nerve does actually get large and you can tell that it would be easy to get inflamed

If it's off and on I would no t worry about it

If it becomes all the time , get the steroid shots

30% have to have it removed
