Any coin collectors on here? Need info on selling.

Inherited a large amount of coins and coin sets about 20 years ago. All kinds. I have zero interest in them and would rather sell them and purchase more land. I don't have a clue of their value other than what I was told about a couple of the quarter and dollar sets back before I got them.

Looking for a place around Houston to get an honest appraisal and offer? I'm completely clueless on their value, that why they have been in a safe for 20+ years. Recommendations?

    Thanks in advance.

I am an amateur collector. There are a number of sites that can give general values of various coins. Values vary from site to site as you might imagine. Do you have an inventoried list of what you have? I might be able to help.

    coinstudy.com (my favorite site)
    coinprices.com
    cointrackers.com

Try these for starters. Prices are driven largely by coin condition.

coins can be tough---it all depends on condition. some coins can jump hundreds of dollars with just 1 grade difference.

are they sets or loose coins or both? Coinbook pro is an app that can get you started to give you an idea.

The majority of them are in book albums. Some silver dollars are in single plastic cases, some are in plastic tubes. Other than the dates and denominations....they look like coins to me.

Mostly in sets. I'd really like to have someone who deals in them , look at them. I don't have the time or interest to do it myself. That's why I'm looking for someone trustworthy.

I looked for Coinbook pro as an app but couldn't find it. I have a Samsung phone. Not to hijack but what are some other good apps for checking coin prices?

Ill give you full face value!! I had an old boss that was a collector. Ill holler at him and see if he is interested. He is in DFW but he will come to you if he is interested. He is retired and has nothing better to do.

I know the app is on the iPhone but not sure about the android. The industry standard is the grey sheet

Anybody ever use US Coins on the Katy Freeway. I've seen nothing but positive reviews from buyers and sellers.

Since 1985, U.S. Coins and Jewelry has been the leader in rare coins, gold coins, currency, gold bullion and silver bullion, diamonds, fine jewelry, high-end Swiss watches, and so much more.

Know nothing about this coin dealer but be ready to get a "wholesale" quote from most dealers. Of course they will quote lower because that's how they make their money.

Have you looked on Ebay? Any time I want to get an idea about what something is worth I look there as a general reference point. They sell a LOT of coins on Ebay. If your collection is valuable it may be worth your time to take some time and sort through everything in order to maximize your potential sales value.

I started looking into it several years ago. So many variables it maddening

Perhaps I'll start with a couple books that I know what a buyer offered back in the late 80's with first.

Ebay is your best guide to the current market. Redbook and CoinValues prices are usually overvalued on common dates and undervalued on key dates.
It's important to know what you have if you go to a dealer. If you have a bunch, they won't take the time to go through them but just give you an offer that they know will give them a nice profit...sometimes VERY nice.

If you put them on eBay, there are enough collectors looking closely at them that you will likely get their true value. Even with the fees, you will end up with more than from a dealer. Only drawback is they will give you a 1099 if over a certain amount (forget what it is) whereas a dealer will pay cash.

I buy coins for our metal detecting club to use for prizes at our meetings and planted hunts. Back in December, I bought a collection from an elderly woman that was selling her late husbands collection...she needed the money. Most of it was common stuff that a dealer would have paid her less than melt for. There was a bag of about 500 mercury dimes that I carefully went through to check each one. First time I ever found a 1942/42 overdate, and this one was in mint condition. When I showed it to her and told her the value it made her day!! I bought every coin but that one for current value plus a little more. Offered her full retail value for the '42, but she decided to keep it and give to her grandson....that made my day!!

It might be worth your time to drive them to dallas and visit Perow. I have done a LOT of gold/silver business with him and will recomend him without any reservation..

Your might try these guys. I use to work with Mike Fuljenz when I was with Blanchard in New Orleans, and even though I don't like him personally, he always knew his stuff. I know at Blanchard, our people use to appraise collections and buy sometimes. I'm not sure if Universal does, but they could be a source of information on where to go.

Don't know where you are but there's a little shop in Bastrop I use all the time. Super fair and honest guy. Ladd's Coin north on 95. He'll shoot you straight.
