The wife of my neighbor down the road, bought 2 expensive recliners and was hauling them in his truck. She threw a butt out, it landed in the seat of one of the recliners and caught both of them on fire. He said it was the fastest $5000 he ever lost.

I smoke and will not throw a butt on the ground. I empty my ashtray in the truck at the gas station trash can. At work I fully extinguish my cig and throw them in the trash.

So don't lump us all together. That's like saying all cops are bad...

Back when I smoked I never did. I always kept a water bottle with 1/2 water in it. I would toss the cigs in there.

I hated it when someone would throw one out before I started, during and since I've quit.

Anyone ridin a motorcycle and see someone rolling down their window, move over cause ,chances are a cig butt is comin back at ya. Have had that happen many times.

Back when I was hunting Possum Kingdom, my water pump went out on Hwy. 380 between Bridgeport and Jacksboro. No cell phone so I walked to a house to call for help. The home owner was a state trooper. Really nice guy. Anyway, I said something about all the burnt areas from grass fires. He told me most, not all but most, were traced back to broken bottles. Said the sun hits them and it's like starting a fire with a magnifying glass. I'm not making excuses for throwing butts out, but not all of the fires are started by them.

I had a roommate who smoked and was in the air Force. Never saw a single cigarette butt.
