    Got these hog casings in the mail today. Wondering if this black stuff is normal.

      I'm guessing some type of mold or bacteria growth. Gonna call that package no good.

            No good. Get it local from processing plant

              I would say some kind of mold. I order 3-4 five gallon buck full of casings a year and I have never seen anything like it. I get mine from quality casings out of state.
              Check out allied kenco or Rodriguez Butcher supply out of san Antonio if your just needing one hank.

                Yeah, I was buying the bratwurst mix and figured it would be easier to have it show up at my door instead of making a separate trip.

                    If you look real close youll find that is part of the logo printed on the plastic. I was taking a pack back to academy for the same thing. When I looked all the packs had.that dark spot so I looked real close and discovered the truth. Kinda stupid packaging if you ask me.

                        I would return and go to your local butcher shop/meat market. Where are you located? I might have a customer that sells in your area.. Try to stay away from LEM, Cabela's, Academy or any 3rd party seller. They normally don't get the best quality product. What size you looking for? Might have a hank here at the house.
