(it's not like my house was on fire...crack the driveway all you want, just save my property)

They did it over a cat & that is bs...you now have devalued property over something very very very trivial. You bet your arse I would be making the city cover my losses under such conditions.

If you wouldn't be bothered by your drive be ruined, then that is fine, but don't belittle those of us who place value on such matters amigo...it's a pretty big deal.
Not belittling any one. You said any one with half a brain would know and it sounds like the OP was home and allowed it to happen. The fire department came when they were called and provided a service they were asked to provide. I doubt there was one man on that truck that wanted to be there or up that ladder pulling a stinking cat out of a tree. I'm sure if they could have reached it from the street they would have, but since the news was there things has to be done. If your house was on fire and you called the fire department are you going to be upset when your house gets wet? The dept was called for a stupid task and now might be punished for providing a service they didn't even want to provide. No good deed goes unpunished.

Did you even read my post...I said if my house was on fire, crack my driveway.

They have no obligation to impress the news for a cat & you totally ignored the fact they devalued his property for a cat...for what, to impress the news?? It was a fail & the OP's post is 'a cat cost me a ton of $$$.' It should not cost him a dime to fix. You do not not put heavy machinery on flatwork unless it is needed. Screw the cat & the news!! It did NOT have to be done or should have disclosed the likely damage.

If it was your driveway, your opinion would not be what you are trying to defend.

Call the City Legal Department. Tell them what happened. If the damages are less than $10k they will probably just write a check. I have dealt with damages a lot since being a Supervisor. It may just be the City I work for but worth a try.

You should be able to contact the fire department. A fire truck backed into my driveway and broke it. We took pictures and I went to them and they paid to fix it.

How many cat skeletons have you seen in trees?

Plus your insurance would pay for the driveway if your house caught on fire and it was damaged in the process. I would be surprised if home owners covers this.

We have a saying risk a lot to save a lot. Risk nothing to save nothing.

I don't know what they will do but I would say they are not responsible for any damages and did what they were called out to do..

Yep. I work for the power company and its beat into our heads dont break driveways. We have to every now and then and we drive on fiberglass plywood to help spread the weight.

Look out though. FD may send you a bill for their "service"

It may be even better to call a competitor of the news channel that ran the story. Tell them to look what so and so news channel did. They ran a story about a cat stuck in the tree and caused the FD to come out and mess up my driveway and now the cat owner or news station won't pay to fix my driveway. That might get their attention. Lol.
