School me on RV water heater usage

So I have a travel trailer that I finally fixed the shower fixture in so now I need to figure out how to use the hot water so I don't shrink the boys too much. Got a gas unit in the back I think I need to light a pilot light out there, but there's TWO buttons by the sink. One button says water heater on/off. The other button says super duber boil your face off water heater (I'm paraphrasing) and has on/off. What's the difference in these two, is one electric?

What year/make/model is your RV? Also, is your water heater factory or did you change it out?

Our last 2 had/has a rocker switch to ignite the burner as well as one for an electronic element.

Sorry I'm unprepared no pics. Camper is a 2006 I think and all factory.

Yes, most "newer" RVs have gas/electric water heaters.

It is a dual water heater, you can either run it on gas or electric or both. You can run it on both at the same time and it recovers a lot faster when everything works right.

Should have electric for when "plugged in" and a gas version for when off the grid. Both should work fine, just have to make sure your propane tank is full, light the pilot and should be good to go.

one for electric and one for propane. A 2006 could very well have auto ignite.

On mine the electric switch is accessed via the outside water heater panel. The switch inside is for gas (lighting the pilot). The switch next to it runs the 12 volt pump. I use my electric since we have power and I'm the only one in the camper. With multiple people and showers, gas is better in that it gets the water hotter quicker. If you haven't done it, I'd pull out the anode that's in the tank and replace. I usually replace mine every two years.

I had an 03 model that was auto ignite on gas FWIW.

Mine has a switch for both electric and LP. I keep mine on electric, works just fine.

We have never had a problem using ours on electric. If the electric doesn't work then the element probably just needs to be replaced.
