Dfw area around mid June they will be rolling up in the creeks off of main lake.
Gator gar move upstream to feed an the spawn of the other fish, mainly carp, and spawn themselves. I've seen some bigguns up in Denton Creek and in Trinity
below California Crossing levy.
Come down south to Choke Canyon, Falcon or Amistad. My buddy shot a 7'3" at Amistad and several over 100lbs. on Choke Canyon. Check out the record book on TPW.
Thank you guys so much! This thread has really helped and to the people who went above and beyond to give me tips and tricks to make it successful, all the way down to folks giving coordinates, or full instruction. Huge thank you to Sam Stephens for talking with me over the phone and putting me in the right place at the right time. Managed to get it done and have a limit of GG in the boat! My very first ended up going over 6' and weighing 125, she even ended up being tagged!

Nice fish. Where'd you end up going? Were they spawning?
They were not spawning yet, all the gar were all singled and suspended feeding. Most gar were rolling in 15-20' of water and hadn't pushed thick into smaller water. That girl was full of eggs though, shouldn't be long. That was at choke.
That was the result of a couple good swings of a hammer, I've been torn up by big longnose. I don't need that big girl shaking them teeth around on my little boat when I'm trying to lift it by the noose over the rails.

Ok that's what it looked like.
So do people always kill them before getting them in the boat?
