As soon as my son graduates college we are planning on getting a travel trailer. The popup has been great but we are looking at much longer trips in the future.
We don't spend time inside when we are on vacay. So something small doesn't bother me. If we aren't camping then we get cheap hotels because it's just a place to sleep and get a hot shower before heading out for the day.

This is us as well. We are never in it unless we are sleeping.

If I were in your shoes, I'd rent instead of buy. Find out what you do and don't like. We had a pop up for years and liked it just fine. Took less than 30 minutes to set up. We never thought about upgrading.

          ^this.
Excellent way of quickly finding what works for your family, your income, and your desire to either be a avid camper with some frills or the guy that just wants the thing to sleep in.
