Was at the rancho a couple of weeks ago and we had a bad storm roll in about 10 pm. A close lightning strike and I was without power in the house for 3.5 hours. The microwave did not survive, the strike killed it.
Still haven't replaced the microwave and the other day I had a hankering for popcorn so I wound up doing it old school in a 2qt pot/lid and bacon drippings. I used a bag of HEB movie theater butter microwave popcorn and could not believe the difference it taste. That stuff was awesome. It brought back my childhood when mom popped on a gas stove.
For those of you that have always eaten microwave stuff you owe it to yourself to cook it in a pot with either regular oil or bacon drippings.
I think it was Dr. Dean Edell who used to do weekly radio shows and television health spots nationally a few years ago said something like, "There is only one thing wrong with fat.... it tastes good".
