The LB7 Duramax was produced from 2001-2004.5 The LLY model started in 2004.5 and went on until 2006.5
Do you know if you have a LB7 or an LLY? The LB7 was the last model to come from the factory with out any emission stuff on it. The LB7's also have bad injector problems. My LB7 Duramax that I owned years ago had ejectors go bad... It started with bad fuel mileage and just got worse.. ended up limping the truck home during a trip that I was about 1000 miles away. One of the signs of the injectors going bad is a white-ish smoke with a light blue tint to it at idle. I dont mean to scare you, but injector replacement cost me almost $4500. If you have never replaced them, I might have a qualified and reputable shop look at the engine and do a balance check on them. that will tell you if any are leaking.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me, I had my truck Pretty heavily modded with EFI Live, Suncoast Built Trans, water/ Meth injection and they some. I was getting about 22-24 MPG average on the highway in a 4x4 CCSB and it was a pretty fast truck

Yes I have the LB7 and had to change out my injectors at 150k.
Thanks for all the info. Not planning on selling this truck it is going to be my sons in another year or so

I know ZERO about cars or trucks. My 05 had a lift pump on it when I bought it 2 years ago.
Question... There are two white canisters bolted to the frame. I am assuming that one or both have filters in them. How often do you change the filters out on the lift pump?
                Question... What is EFI?
I told you I know less than zero about auto mechanics!

If you want the best mileage you can get then you will need to run the highest HP tune's. Flip side of this is that it puts more wear and tear on the engine and transmission. Allison is a great transmission in stock form but once you put some aftermarket power to them they don't last long. So the question is with the money you spend on tuner, exhaust and intake and throwing in the change that you might lift a head or tear up the transmission does it make financial sense to get an extra 20-40% fuel economy. I tuned and deleted my 08 Powerstroke when it was brand new and now I have 130K on it with no issues since I baby the truck. If my math is correct I have 92 less fill ups due to my improvement from 11 MPG to 16 MPG over my 130k miles. Figuring at 3 dollars a gallon (remember gas prices from 08 to 14) I have saved 11k in fuel. As mentioned before a new "built" transmission would run me 6k on the low end and head studs/egr/other stuff while I have the cab lifter would be about the same. So the way I look at it I am really even, the only benefit I have gotten from it is not having to stop to fill up as often.

                      Remove your tailgate...

I have a '14 with a 6" lift running 37's with a basic Superchips tuner. I get around 11.5 in town and 14.5 to 15 on the highway.

I have a 2008 duramax with about the same mileage, but what drives me crazy is the tiny fuel tank more than the mileage.

On our short beds we added titan 50 gal tanks and on some trucks bed tanks
Sure helps when 80 miles away from the fuel depot
