Not quite correct. Acetylene will not produce the heat per cubic foot of gas without oxy mixed with it although is has more btu per liquid pound than propane.
Combustion heat values for gases like acetylene, blast furnace gas, ethane, biogas and more - Gross and Net values.

    Butane might be better?

I sure would be using a minimum 100lb bottle. Lots easier to get propane bottles filled than exchanging Acetylene.
I have both and never use Acetylene anymore unless I am cutting something.

Propane in a small farrier's forge works just fine. Used one many times back when I was shoeing horses. Built many a shoe from scratch using A-36 farm iron.

Uhhh,... yah, that's kinda what I meant . I've never seen anyone use Acetylene with out O2. But I guess there is the first timer and/or someone out there that will . Thanks for your technical observation.

And you do know Propane uses O2 from the current atmosphere also? I hope?
