    Random question

I grew up in central texas in the 1950's - we would go outside on summer nights with glass jars and catch fireflies by the dozens -

I am now trying to remember the last time I saw one - are they extinct?

We see them all the time at our lease in San Augustine. None here at the house.

I've wondered the same thing. I also remember going out on summer nights and listening to bullfrogs on all the farm ponds. Haven't heard one in several years.

I believe it has to do with people poisoning their yards for skeeters. I know that the last time I had mine sprayed, they said that it would kill All insects. Has to have some affect on them.

I read that lightning bugs exist over a single area. For instance, if you were to bulldoze a field, they would all dissappear/die off in that airspace. They don't fly off and relocate, and new ones don't move in.

Pesticides/pollution probably have a lot to do with it. Some summer nights you can get dizzy looking at hay fields around here. In row crop areas, you typically don't see near as many.

Plenty in cleburne... saw a couple in garden ridge last weekend but not really enough to catch

Little rain would bring more out
