    Charge!!!

Who all has been no nonsense charged by a critter (4 legged only)? Tell us the story! I'll start with my only one so far.

My first bow kill was with a 55 pound bear super mag 48. I shook so bad i shot about a 60 pound boar right through the hind quarters at no more than 10 yards. The thing spun around Lookin to fight so I put a 4 blade muzzy right through the pump house. I watched this little guy run about 25 yards and pile up deader than can be. After the longest 15 minutes a 15 year old kid could stand i got up and went over to him and made the mistake of coming up in front of him

When i was 18 paces from where he was laying he jumped up and in an instant popped his teeth and came for me. I remember thinking " i know I'll hit him but i figured he'd get a piece of me too" I snap shot and got about as lucky as it gets, my arrow went in about the rear of his jaw bone and angled in breaking his neck. when he hit the ground and stopped sliding his nose was laying on my left boot.

I quickly proceeded to make him look like a porcupine by putting the rest of my arrows in to him.

That is a pretty intense story.

Mine isn't as cool. A cow head butted me in the side and threw me up in the air. I almost completed a front flip and ended up with at least one rib broken.

i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, either way it was quite the experience.

The cow sounds like it needed an attitude adjustment

Lol that sounds hilarious. The closest thing we had was my dad shot a deer a few season ago and got out a little early thinking he could sneak out and come get me. Well the deer was about 10 yards away laying down so it jumped and ran about 10 yards. Well he came and got me and a buddy we were hunting with. After we tracked it we found him laying down but still breathing. So my dad gets the idea that he will stab it in the neck. After he attempted a stab which turned into barely making it past the fur the buck jumped up full of life. He couldn't go forward because a large cactus patch so the only option was back at the three guys trying to stab him. He bucked around between us until my buddy got a clean shot with his 40 and put him down.

Possum... although it didn't cover much ground and just kind of laid there. Wasn't really very scary

I've been charged by a bull, a rut enraged buck, two pigs, and an old high school buddy. I'm pretty sure the only one that meant me harm was my buddy. The critters were just trying to get away and I was in their way. One of the pigs took a load of steelshot to the face, and my buddy took a straight right. We still laugh about that one.

I wasnt charged but ive had a doe skid out right in front of me....like 3 feet away.

The group i was with spooked her and a few others. When they ran she ran right at me and when she realized i wasnt a tree she just dumped it right in front me. One of the coolest things ive ever seen. It happened so fast i wasnt even spooked.....just in awe from what happened. And as fast as she slipped she was back on her feet moving.

Been charged by whitetail bucks more than anything else,
1st one, dad and I walked out of a cedar thicket and surprised a very passionate buck and doe in a deer version of romantic interlude, Buck dropped his head and came full speed, dads 250-3000 brought him back to his senses just before he died.
2nd one, tried to shoot a buck peeking over a bush in the throat patch, when I got to him, without my trusty 30-06 he came to life, ran me over, came and stomped the heck out of me, come to find out I hit him right on the end of the nose, learned several lessons that day
3rd one, crawled into a scrub oak thicket helping a friend track a buck, buck chased me out of thicket, I even got a couple of rides on his horns on the way out.

About 10 years ago on a hot summer day a buddy and I glassed a big group of pigs wallowing in a tank. We grabbed our bows and split up to stalk them from two directions. I got within about 20 yards when the wind shifted they smelled my buddy and all hell broke loose. About 20 pigs exploded out of the mud and ran straight at me like a herd of buffalo. I stood there as the group parted and ran on both sides of me. One boar paused as he saw me then ducked his head and ran right at me. I drew, did a little side step and shot him at point blank range, at maybe 3 feet. You tend to get great penetration from 3 feet. He died at full gallop just a few steps later. Got a good adrenaline dump out of that experience

One of my hobbies is wildlife photography which has resulted in being mock charged by a black bear and seriously charged by an elk. The bear was my fault, I got too close and I'll never forget that jaw popping sound. The elk was paying me no mind until a ranger came up so he could tell me to be careful as this particular elk had some history. That set the elk off and we both got to play dance around the tree.

My son and I were rifle hunting in South Texas about 20 years ago. I shot a javelina, and he dropped in his tracks. When we went to check him out he got up and started running after us, jaws popping and madder than a hornet. He would kinda run in a semi circle, as his shoulder was blown out. My son finally put a bullet in him and he fell once again, this time for good. We still joke about how he saved my life.

I was charged by a 175 lb. boar hog. Nailed him between the ears with my G20. He slid right up to my feet. Good thing he was in my round trap, ( and I was outside ), or I would have been changing my drawers ! I already had the gun in my hand, made me think of how futile it would have been if I hadn't, and he wasn't in the pen. He woulda flipped my carcass upside down ! Then, I woulda had scars to go with the story........

                              Charge!!!

We were stalking pigs, on a hillside. My buddy was low, I was high. About 30 pigs came down a trail, about 15 yards below me. They spooked and charged up, towards me. I was standing between 2 trees, 3' feet apart, a big boar charged right at me. At last second, I jumped behind tree, he saw the movement and ran smack into the other tree...full speed. I thought he had killed himself. Got up, shook his head, and took off.

Another time my buddy shot a 7 point, hit it high. We tracked it about 100 yards. And it jumped the fence. We were on 74 ranch, if deer ran off your your pasture, you had to get ranch hands to follow it.
We waited by fence and they came with a hog dog and a tracking dog. We jump fence, go about 75 yards, Buck jumps up. It gores/rolls tracking dog for 30-40 yards. The noise the dog was making, I thought he was dead. Buck takes off and we give chase. Me, head ranch hand and hog dog out run everybody. Buck jumps over little rise with hog dog right behind him. We get there and jump ......

Well, the little rise was about a 5' drop off into a creek. When I jumped, Buck was doing headstand on hog dog. Grinding him into creek.....about a foot of water. Buck does a headstand and flips over onto his feet. Rh and I land about 2' in front of him, buck lunges at us, right when he does, hog dog grabs him by his rear leg and tackles Buck. Rh yells, grab his horns..... Dumbest thing I have ever done.

We grab horns and try to drown the Buck. The only reason we did not get gored was the hog dog, he kept yanking the the legs out from Buck. Even then it was throwing us everywhere. We were hanging on for dear life. Finally, we hear a scream, turns out it was another Rh jumping off creek edge with a knife. He jumps on Buck and stabs it..... A bunch, Saving our butts.

Most exciting hunt I have ever been on. My buddy got the Buck mounted because of the story.
