    Retreat at Artesian Lakes

We will be staying in The Big Easy over memorial weekend. I haven't been there since it was chain o lakes when I was a kid. Does anyone have any advise on fishing like what lake or where to fish there. Were gonna have 6 kids between 7 and 3 so I better start catching fish quick to keep there attention.

Any other advice would be appreciated. Plan on taking bicycles for the kids maybe some horse back riding, swimming, obviously fishing. Do they rent canoes?

CHAIN O LAKES...!!!!! I remember that place from when I was a kid. Some nice gators in that lake. Didn't realize they changed the name. I'll have to look it up.

I've been seeing that place on my drive to the lease and wondered about it. Would like to know if that restaurant is any good.

The ponds on the right side of the road as you drive in were good 15yrs ago. We brought 2 man boats and trolling motors. Pond behind the store was awesome, but it was off limits then, so you had to sneak in at night.

we always just hopped around from lakes to sloughs until we found a spot they were biting good. We had the best luck with minnows under a cork

Yes it's very good. They use the herbs and veggies that are grown there

Most Friday nights they have a seafood buffet

Yes! It's a great place to eat. Friday night is seafood and Saturday is Italian I believe. I was going there before it was chain-o-lakes. It was just a gator filled gravel pit when I was a kid.

At far as fishing goes, get some earthworms and the kiddos will have fun catching perch. The raccoons will steal any food you have at night. There are gators there so keep an eye on the kids.

This. Lots of gators years ago but not sure now. Been years since I have been.

Forgot to add. They converted the old swimming pool into a kids fishing pond. It's loaded with sunperch so they will have fun with that

Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna dig up some old pics of me when I was a kid to show the kids when we used to go there. I caught a huge snapping turtle there when I was a kid on a trot line I ran in front of the cabin.

I'm ready to go already. The best luck I ever had there was fishing in the pond behind the restaurant. I caught a bunch of bass but they ran me off. I remember riding my bike back to the cabin with them on my stringer hanging from my handle bars everyone I passed asked where I caught them.

I spoke with them today and the people who were contracted to rent the canoes retired so I'm gonna have to find a canoe or small Jon boat to take if we want to get out on the water fishing.

                          There are alligators everywhere

You are staying in the best cabin for fishing! Big easy holds all the fish. We go every year, grew up with Wyatt he owner, he has really done a great job with the place. Y'all will love the new grill they added to the pool area!!

Those turtles are huge!! They have a head the size of the 10" piling they hold onto! I think there is even a gator missing a leg in the pond up there from those turtles. I know there are lots of soft shells with a nice bite out of them!
