What brand / style waders to use in the Bay

I am wanting to get back to wade fishing the bay and wanted to know what brand / style waders everyone finds best for wade fishing the bays.

I used to have the old neoprene Hodgeman waders and they were great but man they were bulky and heavy. Fine in the water but storage in the boat / at home etc was a pain.

    Thanks for the input.

For cold weather wade fishing I use the Magellan brand from Academy. I like them because they have extra room in case I need to layer up with sweats for the really cold days. I get the stocking foot ones and get a pair of booties a size larger. Worked well for years now.

Depends on location. Sometimes wade booties and sometimes barefoot. Never waders

Breathable waders are the way to go.

Simms is best if you have the funds. Magellans are ok, but not the same quality; however, they are a lot cheaper. You are looking at $300 plus for Simms, but Magellans (or other Academy type brands) can be had for less than $100.

With that said, it's not a fashion contest. If you don't winter wade all that much, the neoprene Hodgmans; albeit not the most comfortable, still will get the job done for a couple seasons.

The newer Simms waders are lacking in the quality department IMO. Check out Patagonia's line of waders. The Skeena wader is of better quality than the comparable Simms wader (Headwaters). A more durable feeling construction material and the seams look to be sealed better. Seriously, go see them in person. Bayou City Angler carries them.

Breathable stocking foots with wading boots are the way to go IMO, better on the legs for lots of wading and also gives you stability if you step off into an area with thick muck. During the summer I normally wear shorts and wading boots with ray guards just to be safe.

For just going a few times a year Magellan brand at Academy does pretty good for the money. If your gonna go quite a bit I'd go Simms. Great waders with an even better warranty. Send them back and they fix it. Whatever you want to spend.

I know this wasn't your question, but my Colorado/NM waders are Simms during summer/fall waters. I buy cheap neoprene waders for colder waters (cabelas or the such) with attached boots as I tend to be harder on them.
