Governments have never had the power or ability to sway information like they do now either. Knowing that all of his sources of releasing information could be shut down virtually instantaneously if he stayed here, why not flee to a sympathetic country that could ensure his methods of exposure would remain in tact?

And why is the only ones who want his silenced are the richest and most powerful? Could it be that his information is indeed accurate, and those in power are willing to do whatever to stay there?

No one outside of very secretive intelligence communities will ever know if his information was good or bad, or cost lives. But with the smear campaign that has already been engrained in the general population, it hardly even matters.

He is considered a traitor by the government, and those are whom the citizens generally call a patriot.

Yep---I'm retired Army as well, and if one of my soldiers had done this, they would have gotten an all expense paid vacation at Ft. Leavenworth.

I agree! Decisions, Policy, Procedure, END RESULT comes from the TOP and filter down to those who ultimately BLEED AND DIE! My "gut feeling" is ANYTHING that causes those in harm's way to BLEED AND DIE, leaked and exposed, is nothing more than TREASON!

I just started a book that was censored by the "higher ups" on a Army unit in Afghanistan...I'm keeping an open mind and will decide, at the conclusion, what contributed to so many Brave American Soldiers losing their lives.

So, I stand for those who are on the front lines and give it all....if a LEAK of information contributes to the mortality of our young men and women...then I am your Enemy! Good Lord....

But I haven't seen a single thing he leaked that had an impact on anyone in uniform.
There is a very detailed list of things that have been released to date and it's a close race between spying on Americans and spying on other country's citizens.
Everything from browser cookies that allowed the NSA to snatch data to apps like angry birds that had a back door to let NSA into people's phones.
If he had released troop movements or anything like that I would be in the crowd of calling for his head.

Patriots don't run unless its to preserve themselves for the next battle, which ain't Snowden.

It is hard to know the real truth about many things these days because of a corrupt media. I don't know what is in his heart but I do know that our Govt is corrupt beyond measure.
I am not aware of anything he did that harmed our troops in anyway.
I don't think I can make a determination just yet.

So--have you seen it all? I doubt it, and he violated procedures, regulations, and laws.

I'm one of those strange individuals that doesn't have anything to hide so if they want to check me out, I'm OK with it.

Why is it you need to define Snowden under the exact & finite term of Patriot or Traitor...is this debate with your friend really that necessary??

We will never know all the details of what he did & did not disclose, nor his true intensions & isn't ours to narrow down. To me, a Patriot does not hide underneath the skirts of those that are not our allies. A patriot is not afraid of death if he feels freedom & liberty are at risk. He also feels the desperate need to disclose any activities the govt is transgressing upon the citizens of the US that do not follow the US Constitution & negatively affect our freedoms & liberties to the point of intrusion at all costs.

I don't know enough to make a conclusion to put any sort of metal or bullet onto his chest...to me, Snowden opened a canned of worms that will likely never have lid closed on it. It surely isn't worth any more effort than friendly campfire chat & most certainly not worthy of debate with such little 411 other than self formed opinions. I would simply let it go as folks aren't going to be swayed.

evrything he had released has only been released to 2 main publications, they are the ones who are puttin them out to most everyone else, I've seen what they have put out.
He is also not the only one who is leaking, they suspect there are at least one other person still in the Nsa who is leaking stuff under his name.
I do have a problem with the government disregarding my rights , we have a constitution for a reason.
I do however respect your opinion, I know you have paid a heavy price for my rights and I thank you

Just a debate , I have no problems at all with others opinions. Plenty on here make pretty intelligent debate on various topics and I respect that.

                              Snowden is a traitor.

Based on your definition our founding fathers were traitors.

They actually were both. Traitors to the crown, and the first patriots.

Not my definition but Websters still a good one though and yes they were but as I said, not against our country.
