    48v charger problems

Saturday afternoon I plugged in my Power Drive 17930 to charge my CarryAll and it would not do anything. I'm getting power in, but absolutely nothing out. I cannot find a fuse (other than the big one on the front under the glass bubble). It's 30 years old and rusty & dirty ugly under the aluminum cowling, but it had worked perfectly up until now. Any suggestions?

Most likely the relay in the charger, need to make sure it is not the computer on your cart that tells your charger when to charge. You can jump out the relay to test for that being the problem.

What is the voltage of your battery pack? The charger has to sense about 30 volts to come on and start charging.

OK, I didn't realize that running the batteries all the way down to the point that the cart won't engage may keep the charger from working. I've been doing some reading on a couple of golf cart forums and they say that the batteries may have to be manually charged for a short period of time before the cart charger will kick on. I guess I'll try this tonight.

Not sure, but I'm thinking that is my problem

You can use a regular charger to get your voltage up and make your charger kick in.

I'll try that this evening. Never dawned on my that "too low" voltage would would be a problem for the charger.

When my cart ran all the way down my charger didn't work. I broke the batteries apart and I didn't have a 6 volt battery charger so I hooked them up in series 2 apiece making them 12 volt and I could use my 12 volt charger. It's also faster than charging one battery at a time. Good luck.

You don't have to unhook anything to charge them 1 or 2 at a time. Just don't leave a 12 volt charger on a 8 volt battery too long.
