Long time Lurker needs help setting started

I have been lurking on the green screen for several years and deciced to jump in. But, I need help getting started.. I am trying to post my avatar. I have tried to resize it by croping the pic then resizing it down to small email size. but it still says the size is 28 KB. Any help would be appreciated. Here is the pic for my avatar and more to come later.

get a photobucket account. once you upoad a picture to photobucket, it will give you the correct size for an avatar, a full size pic, thumbnail, etc...
