                      Melanistic deer are somewhat commonplace in our part of Blanco Co. Absolutely beautiful. By late summer they're almost a dark chocolate color. A genetic anomaly for sure.

                          That doe was bred about the first week of October . 205-210 days. I always count back when I start seeing fawns to try to determine when the does were bred to help determine the rut in that specific area.

                            Melanistic deer is what you are talking about. I saw one standing in the Guadalupe river while I was kayaking 7-8 years ago and had to search for black deer to find out what I saw.
