    Converting Outboard to Tiller Handle.

I am trying to convert a 2007 Yamaha 50hp TLR 2 stroke full injected motor into a Tiller handle motor. Anyone have any experience with anything like this? Would like to do it myself but will pay somebody to do it if they know what is going on!

My dumb opinion, 50 horse is too much engine for a tiller steer.

Check with boats.net. I believe they have a kit for what you want to do.

Mercury makes tiller steered outboards up to 250HP I believe.

I did it to an old stick steer.
I think it was about $500 for new parts.
Can get a parts list if you need.
Had it done with a new impeller and carb rebuild.
          Good luck

Most all manufacturers have a tiller kit option for up to about 90hp. Installation is pretty simple

Thanks for all the replies. Update: I found the parts and wiring harness through boats.net, (if you are looking for boat parts and call them, ask for Randy, he's pretty knowledgable and willing to help). I am going to buy the model with electric start, trim and all that. Is the installation pretty straight forward on all of that as well? Seems like the electrical would be the hardest part.

The electronics are probably plug and play.

We run 200+hp tillers in Louisiana.

It is not a very difficult install. However, as much as it costs and labor involved. I would just trade somebody motors. If you post on some of the outboard pages on FB somebody would trade you quick.

I have thought about that, but my motor is an 07 model that literally doesn't have 20 hours on it. Not sure i'd get my value back.

If you're patient you would. You can say no unless it's a perfect deal! Or could sell and buy again. Post on Cajun boat swap fb.

You're going to sink a bunch more money into it to convert it. And on a motor that nice, you'd probably rather have the original factory tiller.

That's just my input. Your motor, do as you wish! Good luck!
