    Help, concrete slam removal

Can anyone tell me what it would take to remove a 8x10 concrete slab patio deck.
I am about to buy my first home and the backyard is very small " subdivision"
and I'd like to remove a part of the patio to allow more room for a tree and some more grass. the patio is not part of the origanal slab that was laid for the house, it was laid after the fact. wait would it take to bust this thing up and wheel it out in a wheelbarrel.

This is based on my limited concrete removal experience.

You can rent an electric jackhammer pretty cheap. The real question will be "Does it have steel in it?" If there is no steel, it's just a matter of busting it up and then hauling it off. This is heavy labor, but not too bad. Now if it has steel in it, that's a whole other situation. You have to bust it up and then cut the steel. Most mesh is small enough for a good set of bolt cutters. Rebar on the other hand, will require a torch, sawzall, or some other cutting device.

I would recommend renting the jackhammer like DeerHunter said, my neighbors busted up their side walk with one and he said it went pretty easy with the jackhammer but it is still not a fun job, o ya and beer, beer+jackhammer=more yard.....simple math really

Dig out an air space under one corner and start beating with the sledge. Keep a little air under the thing as you go and it will bust up pretty easily.

Go to the local Home Depot and pickup a sledge, a wheel barrow and 2 illegals and turn them loose on it. Figure out where you can dump the stuff. I found my archery club was always looking for clean fill for a washout to reinforce the hill.

Hire the exchange students when they're done with Mary's trees!

Been there, done that ... next time I'm gonna get the exchange students too!

Your way would make for a nice place to put a pool though.

I was trying to eliminate the need for a wheel barrel.

                          YEAH!

Why pick it up when the neighbors will do it for you!
