yall got it! Not the favorite acorn of whitetails but when the White Acorns are gone the deer will get after them.

Red oak. Lots of acorns but not a preferred mast producer. Acorns are usually a little more bitter...

They also only produce acorns every other year. It takes 2 years to set and mature.
Year 1 you will see the baby acorns year 2 you will see them grow and drop.

This is the site I use when in doubt.
Not sure of exact location but i think it might be a Texas Oak, still a red oak.

quick reference: If an oak tree has bristle tips on leaf it is a "Red" oak, no bristle it is a "white" oak. Lots of different species to choose from but that will get you close.

Spread pelletized lime and a 13_13_13 fertilizer under it spring and fall. Deer will hammer the acorns.
