Anyone here own or operate a PTO chipper?

I have lots of questions about PTO wood chippers. Anyone ever own one?

Looking like they cost $3,000-$4,000 for one that claims to chip up 8" diameter trees. Do they jam up much? How well do they work? If you threw a T post in one would it destroy it or just jam it up?

Never had one big enough for 8" trees, if I was going that big I think I'd just rent a skid steer with a tree shredder on it just do the whole thing in place. As far as the chipper/shredder, we've bogged down all I've used, from the little I've used take off at least an inch from what they say it will handle, and a good fresh cut stump at the upper end of the rating will slow or completely bog one down. Can't say about a t-post but I bet there wouldn't be a good ending.

A t post will tear up any chipper. I've only ran smaller PTO chippers and I would rather have have the real thing.

My dad has one on his kubota. That thing is a piece of crap. Granted it's pretty small but the problem with the pto chippers is there is not a drum roller grabbing the limbs and shoving them thru the chipper. You have to stand there and shove it thru. I think he regrets buying it. If I needed a chipper I would just rent a real chipper.

We have one and it's awesome. It will self feed. If it jams at all just reverse it a bit and let it eat.

We have one and it can be trouble. Ours does up to 6". It has a 180lb flywheel but there are times it will jam. The autofeed helps but isnt great. When the flywheel jams it is a PITA to get it unstuck. We have taken that thing apart many a times trying to get it free. Wood chips get stuck between the flywheel and the case..

Any metal will kill your blades and not go well.

I have the BX42. Wish I would've gotten the BX62. It likes the bigger trunks and limbs, it's the small bushy stuff that makes it want to stop the discharge chute up. As far a T-post, it has a shear bolt at the PTO that will shear off to prevent damage to the machine.

Never used a pto chipper. Have a large bandit chipper that will take up to a 12" log. No idea why anyone would want to throw a t post in one though. That just seems like a terrible idea lol

I have one and it's a piece of garbage, haven't used it in over a year.
                    Is "T-Post " a code word for a body???

Just wondering why someone would throw a T post into a chipper?

I will just keep burning. I ain't paying 10k for a chipper and I don't want to deal with a cheap one that breaks.

It was an extreme example. I wanted to know if a rock is in a cedar that I don't see how much it would break the machine. The T post example was to see if the machine jams instead of breaking parts.

If I bought one I'd use the crap out of it and 3-10k is a hefty sum so I needed to know those things.
