    Generator Help Please

I have a Westinghouse 7000EC genny that is currently giving me fits.

The issues started a while back when the genny would not start with the switch. When I say not start I mean it would not even crank....no power whatsoever, but would start and run just fine using the pull cord. Now I can't get it to start at all. I replaced the switch and the oil alert controller with no luck. Not sure if this is relative or not, but I have 12v into the solenoid and nothing out. I'm not getting any power to the switch. With no power to the switch I am assuming this is the reason for spark and this is probably why I can't get it started with the cord any more. I can use a screw driver to jump across the solenoid and it will crank, but will not fire.

At this point I am thinking it's a solenoid issue. Does that sound right?

Try tapping on the solenoid a few times, I bet that's tour problem !

I tried that, but unfortunately there isn't any room to get to the solenoid without cutting all the wires unless I put everything back together

I don't think that is going to help. It will fix the issue of turning the motor over with the switch, but not fix the main issue of it not starting.

First thing to try is new plugs.

When you say no power to the switch is that the on/off switch or the electric start switch. The on/off switch will control the spark I believe and the electric start switch only control the power to solenoid and starter. I would check for spark with a tester first. The electric start should not affect the firing.

            It's a 3 position switch (start/run/off).

The plug has been pulled and checked for spark as well as the wire itself. Nothin.

Sounds like a ground issue some where
The off switch and oil level switch ground out the spark. I doubt it's the oil level cutoff switch bc most have a delay to allow the generator to start before cutting it off in a low oil situation.

If you can jump across the solenoid that is a good check.
