Get a room @ the Hyatt or Marriot on the riverwalk. If they are too pricey there are tons of cheaper options near. Uber is big in the area so even if you get a room that might not be too close hit them up for a lift.
Think of it like Bourbon street without all the stench of puke & murder.
Once your there there are 100's of places to go/see. Anything you want is walking distance away. Its a blast.
I live close to downtown and the ideas mentioned will work but try this out and I bet you go back again.

THIS!!!! Nothing more romantic than hearing 300 to 500 horsepower rumbling on Saturday nights! My dad races limited modifieds there, facilities aint' the best, but the racing is pretty darn good.
IF racing don't get her going, then she might not be worth keeping!!

Bars downtown within walking distance of each other: La Carafe, Okra, Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar (there will be a small line for the law office of Ira Aghai, you go up the stairs and turn left), Bovine and Barley and make sure to get a slice of pizza at Frank's
Wine Bar: Tasting Room
Live music bar: Local Pour
Activities: Top Golf
