We're talking Texas...New Mexico cooks with blackbeans and corn.....Santa Fe style...

I'm not a big black bean fan but I do like to mix about 1/4 black beans to 3/4 pintos when making refried beans. Makes them a bit more creamy with a little different texture. Not all the time though.

I do prefer corn tortillas for tacos. Steamed to make them soft. Homemade either blue corn or yellow.


Wheat or flour tacos did not come along until later.

Whole other can of worms just in using the term west Texas. I'm from Abilene and say I'm from west Texas which irks my buddy who is from El Paso. [emoji1]

As a self proclaimed Allsup's gut bomb connoisseur from my duck hunting days, they are all frozen fried burritos to me.. But I think they call the ground beef and bean, a burrito and the shredded beef with peppers, Chimichangas. Weird yes....but I guess it lets them charge extra for the shredded gut bombs....

When I think of chimichangas, I'm thinking giant fried plate full of goodness, not something that slides in a sleeve to go..

Haha....yes they are best or most accurately described as gut bombs.

Yes. And I was there two weeks ago. McAllen today may as well be Houston compared to what it was 20 yrs ago. Times are a changin', but that doesn't mean Mexican food is. Plus, you grew up in the land of Whataburger so of course you think flour tortillas are Mexican food

Worst possible hunting food. Admittedly I will do anything to avoid the woodsman squat. Always had an irrational fear that I'd be snake bit in my nether regions while doing that. Don't think I've ever hunted with anyone who would have been willing to suck out the poison.

My abuelita that was born in mexico called them all tacos. She made both homemade corn and flour tortillas but said she preferred corn. She would grind her own corn. Man she could cook.

Smart says anyone who calls a breakfast food wrapped in a flour tortilla a burrito is a "Yankee".... but I don't even thing a soft taco is a real Mexican food item..
