Those of you who get hacked: do you keep some kind of monetary balance in your PayPal account?

Otherwise I can't see how you are liable for false charges by someone who fraudulently uses your account.

I just got off the phone with PayPal. I filed a fraudulent use claim. As soon as the thief tries to finalize the transactions, PayPal will freeze their accounts. Because I caught them while they were still pending transactions, no funds will actually leave my account and the $2k+ hold of funds was lifted.

          I feel better now.

There are lots of bad actors out there, and Paypal is a commonly used site which they will run scams on. Thing is, they have to have your password to do so. Like any other site, if your password is hacked, it can end up costing you.

Millions of folks use Paypal effectively (including TBH and my own little Internet site). It is used because it's convenient and trustworthy. Just be careful about keeping your pw confidential.

I find it common that a lot of guys will purchase from me using their wife's Paypal account. Nothing wrong with that, but it does mean that at least two people are using the same pw, and that one of them (meaning the husband) likely isn't truly conversant with the importance of retaining confidentiality of internet info. Just sayin'.......

Couple guys in here hit it on the head, keep your passwords secure people... Don't use the same password you use for any other place, don't use easy passwords obviously, and don't keep your passwords in a email or note or whatever that's available somewhere else that can get hacked.

One thing yall can do if you're really worried about it is simply open up a 2nd free banking account with whatever financial institution you normally use. Attach the 2nd account to your PayPal and only transfer money in there when you plan to use your PayPal account. Then since PayPal requires a backup payment method, use the Visa Debit Card that comes with that 2nd account as the backup. Just be sure you don't have any auto-draft overdraft protection LOL.
